AMC Clinical Bridging Courses - General Information

PMCT has been running Clinical Bridging Courses since 2004.  The practice exam component of the day is mirrored on the actual AMC doctor_whitecoat_webexam and includes two interactive education sessions that focus on clinical and consultation skills required to pass the clinical.  Some of the reasons our courses are so successful are:

  1. The course is based on the actual AMC Clinical Exam in every aspect, with our course co-ordinator attending real AMC Clinical exams regularly to ensure authenticity
  2. Many of our examiners are AMC examiners, with our course content being written and structured by AMC examiners

After each course every candidate receives:

  1. Video footage of themselves performing in one OSCE station (and also a 'clear pass' example of the same station)
  2. Copies of examiners marking sheets and written role player feedback
  3. A summary report containing overall pass/fail rates for each station and common reasons for failure
  4. Copies of notes from each education session
  5. Attendance certificat
  6. Enrolment confirmation letter

How Our Bridging Courses Operate

  • Candidates from across Australia come to Tasmania to participate in the AMC Bridging Courses run by PMCT. Our course is well recognised as being one of the very best to assist in your success at the AMC exam. The PMCT course is mirrored on the actual AMC exam and includes interactive education sessions as well as practice clinical OSCEs (Objective Structured Clinical Examination).
  •
  • PMCT trialled the the use of video footage of 1 OSCE station for each candidate during 2009.  Feedback from candidates indicated that this is a very valuable learning tool and we have progressed the development of video footage so that each candidate receives a USB containing video footage of themselves performing in 1 OSCE station and also a 'clear pass' example of the same station.  We do endeavour to have the USBs available for you to take with you at the end of the course, but this is subject to production time

Frequently Asked Questions

How long is the course ?

Currently the PMCT IMG Bridging Courses are 1 day courses consisting of 2 concurrent educational sessions and a 9 station replica of the AMC Clinical Examination. Please note that we change the scenarios for all components of the day (the practice exam and also both teaching sessions) for every course as many IMGs attend multiple courses prior to sitting the real AMC Clinical Examination. We have previously run longer weekend courses but after considering candidate feedback from previous courses, have reduced the length of the course to 1 day. (Candidate feedback indicated that the Practice AMC Clinical Exam was the main reason for attending the course)

How much is the course fee ?

Fee for the PMCT Clinical Bridging Course is $660.00

Important notice to AMC Clinical Candidates

On 6th May 2010 we received a letter from the CEO of the AMC. My interpretation is as follows.

IMGs preparing for the AMC Clinical Examination have in the past been granted scheduling priority for clinical examinations when registered with clinical bridging programs.

Despite their best intentions, the AMC has experienced some difficulties with offering priority places to candidates who have attended bridging courses. They have even been threatened with legal action by eligible candidates who feel they are being disadvantaged by the scheduling priority for bridging course participants.

So how does the AMC decide who gets to sit the clinical in any given series ?
