Postgraduate Year 1 (PGY1) doctors typically commence their training year at the start of January each year. PMCT departments at each of the three sites (Hobart, Launceston and Burnie) develop and run the PGY1 orientation program which is held the first or second week of January, immediately prior to the commencement of Term 1.
Programs vary across the sites, but all provide interns with:
An outline of the intern year, including what is expected from the interns from a learning, outcome, and professionalism perspective
Introduction to PMCT staff, as well as key THS staff such as the Executive Director of Medical Training, Clinical Management Unit representatives and other key individuals
Overview of term requirements, including assessment
Overview of education requirements, including completion of mandatory skills training
Opportunities to shadow existing interns on the wards, before official commencement of duties
Please refer to the individual hospital site sections for further information about the Intern Orientation programs.
